The purpose of the workshop is to assess the present state of remote sensing activities in the coral reef ecosystem. The intention is primarily to address the coral reef research from the vantage point of satellites. The conference seeks to encourage presentations from the international coral reef community who may have only recently become involved in these activities due to bleaching episodes of the past several years
Special invited presentations designed to provide the user community improved access to existing data and information. Special presentations that are designed to show new techniques becoming available from satellite during the next few years with applicability to understanding and improved potential for managing the coral reef ecosystem from the vantage point of space. Discussions on the increasing need and limitations for linking in-situ data into developing geographical information systems. Formation of several working groups to facilitate brainstorming sessions for improving and optimizing remote sensing data and information on coral reefs monitoring or reef ecosystems management.
