About Coral-List

Coral-List is funded by NOAA's Coral Reef Conservation Program and therefore adopts and is guided by its strategy for coral reef conservation. For more information, please see:

http://www.coralreef.noaa.gov

The purpose of the Coral-List listserver is to provide a forum for Internet discussions and announcements pertaining to coral reef ecosystem research, conservation, and education. The list is primarily for use by coral reef ecosystem researchers, scientists and educators, but is of course open to everybody. As of February, 2012, over 6,800 coral reef enthusiasts were subscribed to the list.

Appropriate coral reef ecosystem-related subjects for discussion might include:

  • land-based sources of pollution
  • climate change
  • over-fishing
  • inter-governmental research and conservation efforts
  • socioeconomics
  • outreach and educational programs
  • high predation on coral reefs
  • coral bleaching incidences and research
  • outbreaks of diseases affecting coral reef organisms
  • environmental monitoring sites
  • incidences of reproduction by coral reef organisms
  • shipwrecks on coral reefs and their effects
  • international meetings and symposia
  • marine protected area research and news
  • new coral reef-related publications and reports
  • announcements of coral reef science courses and field trips
  • research and conservation initiatives and opportunities
  • new and historical data availability
  • coral reef ecosystem modeling topics
  • controversial topics in coral reef ecology

Occasional digressions will be permitted, if for no other reason than to make reading informative and occasionally humorous. Please just remember to bring it on home to the topics above as the the choppy seas abate.
