For the first time in the Tropical Pacific or tropical
Southeast Asia and Indian Ocean basins, the major tropical
Indo-Pacific species of seagrasses were restored to a variety
of previously impacted sites. The selected sites around the
Philippines had suffered the effect of dredge and fill, urban
effluents, copper mining, thermal effluents, residuals of
chemical fertilizers, and high energy sediment stabilization
for erosion control. Restoration techniques of dominant
species of seagrasses, which were found to be associated with
a rich fisheries nursery, were studied. The techniques of
seagrass rehabilitation were transferred from the Atlantic
tropical restoration studies.
